Winding my Bell & Howell Movie Camera US Army Photog 1977
I’ve started a new project this past week. I’m going back through my black & white negatives and identifying what I think are the best images and scanning them at high resolution for eventual printing. It’s bringing back a flood of memories (both good and bad) sifting through 100’s of contact sheets and negative files then evaluating them to see which ones I want to scan. One thing I am starting to notice is my focus on environmental portraits of family and friends taken over the years.
Here are a few of my favorites so far. I hope to get my strongest black and white images scanned in the next month and then go on to the color negatives. Hard to believe I have not shot actual film in about 6 years. I don’t even want to think about trying to organize all those digital images I have on portable hard drives, CD’s, and my various computers. That will be my project for the fall. Right now I want to get all the analog work digitized and organized. Thank God I have kept all my negatives in file folders and clear sleeves over the years.

Consider using one of those mixed media that are hanging near your office for the cover?
They are just so “you”.
I’m envisioning something that wraps around the edges with a glossy binding. Coffee table style like http://www.asukabook.com makes. Just a thought…

[...] As I mentioned to my students yesterday…there is something about the inherent quality of a black & white “silverprint” that cannot be replicated digitally. At least I’ve not seen a digital b&w photograph that [...]
