Inspirational Weekend!

People Studying Catherine Walker's Art - Photo by Andei Keough

Creative inspiration comes to me from many sources. This past weekend a variety of these sources converged at the East Carolina University School of Art Alumni Art Exhibition. My daughter Andei and I traveled to Greenville, NC to attend the the Alumni show. It was great getting to see so many old friends and Professors at the receptions, and of course so much great artwork that was on display at 3 different venues.

Excerpt from Gray Gallery Web Site…

“The East Carolina University School of Art and Design Alumni Exhibition 2011 will feature the work of 234 graduates from the state’s largest art school. The show is so large that it will be a joint exhibition by three venues: the Wellington B. Gray Art Gallery at ECU, the Greenville Museum of Art, and the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge. A first time collaborative exhibition by all three venues, the show will have work from all studio areas in the School of Art and Design:  animation and interactive design, ceramics, graphic design, illustration, metal design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textile design and wood design.  Participating artists live in 28 states plus the District of Columbia.”

Not only did Andei and I get to see lots of unique and visually engaging art – we also stayed over and photographed during and after the receptions. When I see so many of my colleagues like my art/photo Professor Henry Stindt making and exhibiting art, it inspires me to devote more time to my personal art and photography. I get so caught up with my teaching that it’s really easy to procrastinate when it comes to creating new work.

Saturday morning we photographed in and around the downtown area of Greenville and when we got home the two of us decided to do a collaborative mixed media painting. The canvas is primed and we’ve already started it. I’ll be sure to post a image of it when we get through.

The following are some photographs we both took while on our excursion to Greenville. Attending art exhibits has always been inspirational to me! Unfortunately there is never enough time to make new work. Enjoy!
