Windows, Walls and Doorways……

One of the things that constantly grabs my attention as I travel around Central America with camera in hand is the wonderful, rich colors, weathered textures, interesting lines and geometric shapes on the walls, windows and doorways in the towns and villages I meander through.

It struck me the other day, as I walked through the town of Ataco, El Salvador that no matter where I go I’m pointing my camera at walls, windows and doorways, so this blog post spotlights some of my favorite images taken with this theme in mind. Its a fun challenge composing visually unique and interesting compositions out of doors, walls and windows. This theme takes me to the back roads and alleys of the towns and villages that I travel through.

As I photographically explore and investigate this subject I am constantly reminded and influenced by abstract art especially painters like Mondrian, Cezanne, Leger and Picasso.

Essentially… as a photographer, I’m framing (capturing) compositions that are comprised of lines, shapes, textures, colors and values. The interrelationship of the elements of design becomes my subject over and above the actual wall or window itself. I imagine some of these images being used for references for my abstract paintings.

So here are a few more of my favorite and most recent photographs of walls, windows and doorways taken in Central America. Enjoy!

There are pictures to be taken where ever our travels take us.  We just need to be hyper – aware of our surroundings and nurture our photographic vision. It’s all about SEEING!

Wonderful – a photographer’s theme that I always thought would make a greta group show.

Thanks! You can’t visit any town in Central America without noticing and wanting to photograph the wonderful colors, textures and character of the rustic and weathered architecture.
